Crossbred

Not a breed — the mixed-ancestry dogs that fill shelters everywhere.
Every purebred page on this site is a prediction. A shelter crossbred is an observation — you can meet an adult dog, see its size, watch it with other dogs, and find out how it behaves in a home from the people who fostered it. That is better information than any pedigree provides. The trade-off is that you cannot special-order the traits, which matters if you need a specific size or coat and does not matter otherwise.

Colours
No registry, no standard, no recognised colours. Deliberate designer crosses — the -oodles and their relatives — are not covered on this site yet; we would rather say nothing than guess at the genetics of a first-generation cross.
Right for you if
  • You want to know what an adult dog is actually like before committing.
  • You do not need a specific size, coat or predicted temperament.
  • You would rather spend the purchase price on the dog than the pedigree.
  • You are open to an older dog, where the guesswork drops to almost nothing.
Wrong for you if
  • You need a predictable adult size for your housing or your life.
  • You need a specific working ability or coat type.
  • You want a puppy and want to know how big it will get.
  • You are showing dogs.

Availability, registration and keeping requirements differ from place to place. Check the rules where you live before you commit to any animal — we describe animals, not law.
